According to Dead Base, Victim or the Crime was first played on 6-17-88. But check out 7-02-87 in Rochester. Starting at 4:20 into Space, they play a nice rendition of it.

Solid show all the way around, minus Healy messing around with the vocals. Silver Stadium in Rochester was an old baseball field in the middle of 1940's suburbia, USA. Upstate toodleloo!

Yeah, interesting - it's all over Bobby & The Midnites setlists starting in 1983. I wonder if it was around for a while before he brought it to the GD? - which would be strange but not out of the question, I guess - or if these lists are maybe confusing it with a different song

Hey thanks for reminding me of this. I've been meaning to digitize it for some time, and will get around to the whole show one of these days. Here is what I believe to be the first performance of Victim, from 1/21/84 at the Country Club in Reseda, CA. Maybe I'll link it from the website as well.

This page if it's accurate shows it in set lists starting from at least June, 1983 -

You'd think I would do a better job of reviewing the setlists on my own site when making a "first ever" statement like that. DOPE!

Yes it was an old baseball stadium. Built in 1929, I attended many a minor league game there growing up. Babe Ruth played there once, in an exhibition game. That the Dead would play that place, then two days later on the holiday appear in an NFL football stadium is, well, very Dead.

The stadium has been gone for some time now. Last time I was there the site was a large grassy field. It was disappointing to me that they did not preserve and commemorate the location of home plate through the demolition and remodel process.
